Dream Oaxaca

Dream Oaxaca

Oaxaca's magic is in the air.  Known for its indigenous culture, you can explore textiles, ceramics, printmaking and any number of vibrant arts.  Colorful festivals, a uniquely savory cuisine, natural wonders and interesting activities will round out your trip to this Mexican state.

Hierve el Aqua

The petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua are nestled between the mountains of the Sierra Mixe and the Oaxacan Sierra Norte a little over an hour outside of Oaxaca.  These amazing formation of waterfalls and pools are formed over the course of thousands of years by the calcification of gushing water with a high mineral content.

Handmade Textiles

Oaxaca is renowned for its wealth of textiles and there are numerous opportunities to learn more about the weaving, dying and embroidery that is the hallmark of local textiles during your visit.  The Oaxaca Textile Museum features nine private collections of unique, donated textiles, such as the tlámachténtli (a vice-regal indigenous fabric), girdles, rebozos (shawls) from Santa María del Río, and fragments of a huipil embroidered with feathers.  In addition to the textiles found in Oaxaca City and its surrounding pueblos, many wonderful varieties come from distant regions of the state.

Santo Domingo de Guzman

Located in the center of this Unesco World Heritage city you will find the former Convent of Santo Domingo, one of the most valuable monuments in Oaxaca. It is considered one of the greatest architectural feats of the Dominican order and highlights the splendor of the New Spanish baroque style of the last third of the 16th century.  Today, the space has become a cultural center featuring the Ethnobotanical Garden, the Fray Francisco de Burgoa Library, Oaxaca’s Public Newspaper Archives, and Oaxaca’s Museum of Cultures of Oaxaca.
